My current hometown, Strasburg, Colorado (1907), a creation of the railroad and homsteaders, was predated by a community, roughly 12 miles north of or a 26 minute drive by todays standards, Living Springs.
The Comanche Crossing Historical Society, the local museum in Strasburg, has photos of the original buldings of the Living Springs homstead.
"Living Springs was a stage stop and ranch on Comanche Creek north of Strasburg that became a farming community. One of the first schools in Eastern Adams County was the Living Spring School District No. 31, organized in January 1879. The school district extended from the Weld County line to four miles south of the present town of Strasburg." (1)
The stage stop was part of the Platte Route of Wells Fargo and Company. The route was started from North Platte, Nebraska, to Denver, Colorado. It was a Home Station, "which were linked to telegraph connections, and provided food and lodging for the travelers" (2)
Most of the homstead is still a working ranch. So as not to infringe on any intellectual property of the Comanche Crossing Historical Society and on current owners of the property, I will try to bring you stories of this particular area, that have not been published already, or published without thier permission. There may, and I stress may, be a structure or two still standing on the homstead. I will check into this and get the photo's if possible.
Thats it for today. Remember, if your in the area, grabbing a bite to eat or gassing up the car, stop by the museum.
Happy homesteading,
The Homesteader

Introduction
Greetings:
I'm a resident of Strasburg Colorado with an avid interest in history. The history of Eastern Colorado, in relation to the entire state, can get overshadowed. My goal is to find these historical stories and places and communicate them to you through this blog.
